主讲人简介：Allen Renear, 美国伊利诺伊大学信息科学学院教授，曾任院长 (2012-2019 年)。教学内容包括数据整理，信息建模与数字出版，研究内容包括形式本体论及其在信息系统，出版和数据整理中的应用。曾在布朗大学任职，并在国际上担任多个重要的学术领导职务。学术成果丰硕，论文发表于顶级期刊。毕业于鲍登学院和布朗大学，同时在哲学领域担任附属职务。

报告简介：We present a conceptual analysis of information in its ordinary sense. Our account is based on (i) a distinction between contingent roles and categorical kinds and (ii) Grice’s notion of “non-natural meaning.”This approach contrasts with theories that define information in terms of syntactic probabilities (Shannon), semantic probabilities (Bar-Hillel & Carnap), or causal covariance (Dretske and Millikan).
